This week, I had the great pride of traveling with 52 farm bureau contributors to Shipshewana, Indiana. Shipshewana is a small community of fewer than 800 people, but over one million people visit it each year. It is a vacation spot for folks who want to explore an Amish network, visit the big open-air flea marketplace, and visit many different points of interest.
On Monday, we traveled from Freeport to Shipshewana, where we stayed at the Farmstead Inn. Later that night, we traveled to a nearby Amish domestic for dinner. There, we were greeted with a warm welcome, and we enjoyed a meal prepared specially for us. Our tremendous meal included meatloaf, ham, salad, mashed potatoes, noodles, and pie.
Tuesday, we spent the day with an excursion guide who confirmed several neighborhood favorites, including a bakery and Amish marketplace. That night, we saw the manufacturing of “Simple Sanctuary” at the Blue Gate Theater in downtown Shipshewana.
